Several students approached me after class, indicating a concern that they do not have sufficient computer skills to cope with this class. I have two responses. First, the computer skills required are not very extensive - you do need to know how to use a web browser, how to type something, how to use e-mail, how to use a mouse to click on an Internet link etc. However, there is no programming involved, and the web log, in particular, is designed for persons without any advanced computer skills. My second response is to remind students of the importance of having basic computer skills when entering the job market, and this course provides an opportunity to get better accustomed to using the Internet as a source of acquiring and disseminating information. So, my advice is that students not give up merely because you are hearing about new aspects of Internet technology - give yourself a chance to try it out.
